Mike Gilchrist was named the top player in the nation for the class of 2011 when Rivals.com updated their national rankings on Wednesday.

Gilchrist is the first player to have a stronghold this early in his class since Greg Oden in 2006. He was previously ranked No. 3 in the class last season.
Gilchrist is followed by 6-foot-2 point guard Marquis Teague (Pike/Indianapolis, IN), 6-foot-8 small forward Quincy Miller (Quality Education Academy/Winston-Salem, NC), 6-foot-3 point guard Austin Rivers (Winter Park, FL) and 6-foot-9 power forward Johnny McAdoo (Norfolk Christian/Norfolk, VA) to round out the top five.
The new 2011 rankings list the nation’s top 100 prospects, 25 of which are considered five-star prospects.
Anthony Wroten, Jr. and LaQuinton Ross, two of the most hyped players in the class, both dropped. Ross (6-8/SG/Murrah/Jackson, MS) and Wroten (6-4/PG/Garfield/Seattle, WA) were ranked No. 1 and No. 2 but both have fallen to No. 9 and No. 18, respectively.
Thus far, the class looks to have serious depth in the backcourt as six of the top 20 players are point guards. Four of the top 25 are shooting guards, as Bradley Beal (6-5/SG/Chaminade/St. Louis, MO) leads the position. Five small forwards are considered five star prospects.
