Drug Rehab Centers Finally See the Light: Suboxone Maintenance Is Not The Answer

Treatment Centers Offer Alternatives to Continuing Opiate Usage

Recently, many drug treatment centers are learning that suboxone is not the answer to an addiction to opiates. Unfortunately, suboxone or buprenorphine, creates a problem where addicts receiving the drug become dependent on it, creating a vicious cycle. It is important to recognize that while these drugs may curb the desire for the addictive drugs, they can be just as addictive and damaging.

Often, people who become addicted to drugs often do because they are trying to mask the pain of an underlying emotional or psychological issue. It is critical to treat these reasons for the addiction, not give yet another drug in the hopes that it will help in the treatment of the disease. Drug rehab centers that use individual and group therapy find that they get better results than if they rely solely on suboxone.

Drug addiction will only be successful if addicts complete drug detox. Drug detox is important simply because cleansing the body of the damaging toxins from the drugs is the only way to jumpstart recovery. Once an addict completes a drug detox program, then they can begin working on their disease and finding effective ways to treat their addiction. Replacing one drug with another is not a good idea. It can often lead to an unhealthy addiction to the drug one believes is helping treat the addiction.

Opiate maintanence programs often cause more problems than they solve. Helping addicts regain control of their lives is the only clear escape from an addiction to drugs. Drug rehab centers understand that a comprehensive approach to addiction treatment is the best way to achieve a lasting and meaningful recovery.
