Rima Fakih, who became the first Arab American to ever win the Miss USA pageant in 2010, was arrested over the weekend on drunken driving charges. According to reports, Fakih was taken into custody in Highland Park, Michigan around 2:15 a.m. Saturday. She was charged with misdemeanor drunk driving.
Fakih’s attorney Doraid Elder claims the former Miss Michigan had pulled over shortly before she was spotted by police because she realized she was too intoxicated to drive herself and her passenger to their destination. Elder says Fakih, 26, is “very saddened and very apologetic” for her arrest.
No other details have been released. Fakih faces up to 93 days in jail, fines and community service.
