Fentanyl Drug Rehab

fentanylActiq, Durogesic, and Instanyl are just a few of brand names for the drug Fentanyl.  It is also called fentanil less formally and is a strong agonist of the brain’s kappa/mu opiate receptors.  It is viewed as a highly potent narcotic analgesic or painkiller.  It is typically prescribed to treat “breakthrough” pain as well as pre-surgical procedures.  As a result, it is considered as being 100 times more potent than morphine and is powerfully addictive.

Pharmaceutical fentanyl became one of several prescription medications that were sold on the streets in illegal distribution groups during the mid 1970’s.  The DEA currently views fentanyl as a powerful narcotic and is now considered a primary drug threat in the US and is listed under the illegally trafficked painkillers category.  The US National Health Institute also views fentanyl as a serious public health threat because a large overdose of the drug is oftentimes fatal in many cases.

Addiction and dependency

Fentanyl exhibits a high potential for abuse and can lead to physical and psychological dependency as well as addiction.  As a result, numerous addiction treatment and recovery centers offer fentanyl drug rehab programs for dealing with the addiction and dependency upon this drug.  Tolerance to fentanyl tends to build rapidly and dependence or addiction to it is usually evidenced by having to ingest more of it in order to get high.

When it comes to addiction treatment and recovery from fentanyl addiction or dependency, the traditional facilities and the alternative ones offer drug rehab programs for this.  Unfortunately, the traditional facilities witness far lower success rates than the alternative centers.  Relapse rates have been seen to climb as high as 80% with these traditional facilities, meaning that 4 out of every 5 clients who return home after treatment usually fall back into their addictions.

This usually happens because the traditional fentanyl drug rehab programs do not offer education and recovery tools so that the individual remains substance-free for the rest of their lives once they return home to society.  Although this a common goal between the traditional and alternative facilities, the latter such as our center witnesses higher success rates on a regular basis.
