Florida company, Kilibrew Inc., a construction and engineering firm presented a new technique called ‘pipe bursting’ as a method to deal with aging asbestos pipes, commonly used throughout portions of the state.
According to the News Chief, Steve Kilibrew of Kilibrew Inc. met with the Ridge League of Cities and Florida League of cities to get their support for the technique to combat the problem of removing asbestos-laden water pipes. They have employed this technique to remove other pipes and are convinced it can be used for asbestos pipes.
Pipe bursting involves pulling an expander head through old pipes to break them up. New pipes are towed in behind so that the old pipe is replaced in the process. The old pipe is pushed into the surrounding soil.
Kilibrew Inc. has been trying to get state and federal EPA approval for their technique, but the agencies are not convinced that is a viable procedure for removing the pipes safely.
Asbestos is hazardous to human health when disturbed and can lead to a number of respiratory ailments including mesothelioma. Mesothelioma cancer, which affects the delicate lining of the chest cavity, is fatal and costly to treat; therefore many victims hire mesothelioma attorneys to seek compensation.
Mesothelioma lawyers have worked for years to make certain the companies responsible for these asbestos-related diseases pay for their disregard for worker health. Numerous companies were forced to regulate their use of asbestos and warn workers because of court cases filed by mesothelioma attorneys and regulations imposed by federal agencies.
