2 Dead In Shooting At Virginia Tech

A police officer and one other person were killed Thursday in a shooting at the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg. The suspect, who is described as a white male wearing grey sweatpants, a maroon hoodie and a gray hat with a neon green brim, is still at large.

NBC News’ Pete Williams reported the shooting happened during an on-campus traffic stop. “It was not someone walking around firing shots,” Williams told MSNBC.

No other details were available. Authorities are currently searching for the suspect, who was last seen near McComas Hall. The entire campus has been placed on lockdown until further notice. "There is an active campus alert in Blacksburg. Everyone should seek shelter or stay where you are. Blacksburg Transit service is suspended until the alert is lifted,” read an alert posted on the school’s web site.

Virginia Tech is the site of a 2007 shooting that left 33 people dead. The shooter was 23-year-old English student Cho Seung-Hui. He committed suicide at the scene.
