Jim Leyritz, a former New York Yankees player, was
arrested early Thursday morning on domestic battery charges.
Leyritz’s wife Karrie Leyritz has accused him of dragging
her out of bed and shoving her to the floor because she wrote a check without
his permission. She fled to a neighbor’s house where she called police. Authorities
say Karrie suffered a cut above her eye.
Police say Karrie, who admitted she had been drinking, also
gave two “totally different” accounts of the alleged attack. The couple’s three
children were sleeping at the time of the incident. Two of the children said
they didn’t hear anything and the third said his mother likely hit herself.
Leyritz was booked at the Broward County Main Jail in
Florida on simple domestic battery. The 45-year-old also faces DUI manslaughter charges from a fatal accident in December 2007. His trial is set
to begin on September 14.
Leyritz played 11 seasons in major league baseball. He played
for the Yankees, Anaheim Angels, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, San Diego
Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.
