Simplicity Cribs Recall Issued for 400,000 Cribs

Another recall has been issued for Simplicity drop-side cribs. An additional 400,000 Simplicity cribs were recalled today due to hardware that can break or deform, allowing the drop side to detach and create a gap between the mattress and side of the crib. Babies can get caught in the gap and suffocate.  

Ten infant deaths in recent years have been blamed on the cribs. “You should not put your baby to bed tonight in a Simplicity drop-side crib,” says a spokesman for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The cribs were sold at discount stores from January 2005 until last month. The recall today brings the total number of recalled cribs to 2 million.
