Candy Vigneri Gives Birth in Portable Toilet, Leaves Baby in Waste Tank

A Maryland woman identified as Candy Vigneri, 44, is charged with child abuse after giving birth in a portable toilet and dropping the newborn into the waste tank.

Police say Vigneri gave birth, dropped her infant daughter in the toilet and headed outside to smoke a cigarette. When a man approached the toilet, Vigneri warned him not to use it. “Don’t go in there, I just had a baby there,” she told the man.

The man immediately dialed 911. Vigneri retrieved the baby before paramedics arrived. The baby was unresponsive and covered with the blue antibacterial chemical agent that is in the base of tanks in portable toilets.

Vigneri is being held on $50,000 bond. She told authorities that she didn’t know she was pregnant.

The baby is in stable condition at Easton Memorial Hospital and will be transferred to social services.
