Top Travel Destinations for the Holidays

Despite the down economy, many people are traveling overseas this holiday

Though the economy remains sluggish, many Americans are looking for a little luxury away from home this holiday season. Luckily for those watching their pocketbooks, however, many hotels around the world are still suffering from a drop in occupancy rates. Because of this, five star rooms can be had for discount prices.

As the holidays approach, here’s a look at some of the top destinations for holiday travelers this year.

Australia

It’s traditional in Australia to spend Christmas on the beach, and, in fact, Santa often makes an appearance on the shore and arrives by boat. Travelers who would prefer to spend their holidays lying on a beach rather than decking the halls will find that the country offers exactly what they are looking for. Australia can also be done very affordably for the holidays, as it is a good place to find discount hotels and deals.

Barcelona

One of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Barcelona is an enchanting holiday vacation hotspot. Combining friendly atmosphere and graceful architecture, the city has a lot to offer Christmas travelers that make this city a wonderful winter destination. Barcelona’s Christmas markets, like that of the Fira de Santa Llúcia, are uniquely Spanish in flavor. Visitors can take advantage of some unique cultural traditions, such as the Catalan Tió de Nadal.

Morocco

Morocco is a beautiful country that is home to some of the world’s most interesting food and unique marketplaces. American travelers have only recently been discovering Morocco as an attractive tourist destination, and those who want to experience a unique culture in a thoroughly modern setting will be pleased with what Morocco has to offer.

Tokyo

Visitors can get affordable last minute hotel deals in Tokyo this time of year, and right now is a good time to visit the city. Although Christmas is not a national holiday, Japanese-style colorful decorations cover the city from November on. New Year’s is an important holiday in Tokyo, however, and the city plays host to many celebrations during the last week of December and the first week of January.

For travelers looking to take advantage of holiday travel deals this year, the outlook is good as there are some excellent rates on some top destinations. Luxury in many parts of the world is very affordable this season, especially if travelers are willing to look off the beaten path.
