For the second time in less than a month, a Chinese school bus has crashed and killed over a dozen children. The latest incident occurred Monday afternoon in Feng county, Jiangsu province.
According to the state-run Xinhua news agency, the bus was carrying 29 elementary students when it crashed into a ditch filled with water. Local authorities confirm 15 students died and another 8 were injured. Xinhua reports some of the deaths were from drowning.
The crash happened when the bus driver swerved to avoid hitting a pedicab. Authorities have reportedly taken the bus driver into custody.
Monday’s accident comes nearly 4 weeks after 19 children were killed when an overloaded school bus collided with a coal truck in Yulinzi township, Gansu province. Another 44 children were injured, at least 12 of them critically.
