Although there are many programs for substance abuse treatment that might suit you, selecting becomes frustrating due to the available choices.
How do you know if an out-patient rehab program is right for you?
Whenever you are confronting your issues with substance abuse, one of the decisions you will have to make is what type of program will work best for you. Will an in-patient program be best or is an out-patient treatment for substance abuse the better choice? Ask yourself the following questions:
- When you try to stop using the substance, do you experience withdrawal symptoms?
- Have you been diagnosed with psychological conditions such as anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, eating disorders, or schizophrenia?
- Do you live with people who use substances or are you currently in a co-dependant relationship?
- Are you beginning to have financial problems or legal issues?
- Is your job so stressful that you need to use a substance just to get through your day?
If you answered “yes” to any of these questions or a combination of them, chances are you could benefit from an out-patient treatment for substance abuse. If you do not have the financial means to pay for an in-patient program, are the only guardian or parent of children in the home, and are still pursuing your education or working a full-time job, then you are most likely a candidate for an out-patient program.
Additionally, many individuals prefer an out-patient treatment for substance abuse rather than the in-patient format due to the flexibility it provides them with. In-patient program requires that you move into the facility to undergo the program. You are allowed to return home in the evenings with the out-patient format which gives you higher flexibility but requires a higher degree of will power to resist the temptations without the staff monitoring your progress at home.
