Several tractor-trailers collide in tunnel on California interstate

The truck tunnel on Interstate, near Los Angeles, was closed for over eight hours Monday night due to a truck accident where several tractor-trailers collided on the wet roadway.

The pileup in the tunnel occurred around 8:30pm when a driver going southbound lost control of his Freightliner. He was traveling at 40mph, which the California Highway Patrol told the LA Times was too fast for the road conditions. It had been raining all day.

The Freightliner swerved and hit another truck, drove up an embankment then turned over. Another rig had to pull on the shoulder while a third truck braked then jack-knifed, crossing the lanes, setting off a chain of additional accidents. A total of seven trucks were involved.

Four of the trucks contained gasoline, crude, milk and chemicals, but none of the tankers ruptured.

The only injury resulting from this accident was minor.

Sometimes collisions involving this many truck can turn tragic, very quickly as a truck accident attorney can confirm. This same tunnel was the site of an accident in 2007 involving a dozen vehicles where three people died and caused millions of dollars in damages.

The injuries and property damages caused by these commercial vehicles can be very expensive; the victims can sue for damages with the assistance of a truck accident lawyer.

Anyone involved in a collision with these heavy vehicles deserve to be compensated, their best chance for being awarded favorably is by hiring a truck accident attorney
