Chris Meloni is set to become a vampire! The former Law and Order: Special Victims Unit star has joined the cast of True Blood, HBO announced Wednesday. Meloni is no stranger to HBO – he previously starred as bisexual inmate Chris Keller on the prison drama Oz.
According to producer Alan Ball, Meloni will play “an ancient, powerful vampire who holds the fate of Bill and Eric in his hands.” His character will be a regular on the upcoming fifth season. Bill is played by Stephen Moyer while Eric is played by Alexander Skarsgard. True Blood also stars Anna Paquin as Sookie, Sam Trammell as Sam Merlotte, and Ryan Kwanten as Jason.
No other details about Meloni’s role have been released. The 50-year-old left Law and Order: SVU in May after 12 years of playing Detective Elliot Stabler.
