Woman Dies In Manhattan Elevator Accident

An elevator inside a Manhattan office building malfunctioned Wednesday, leaving a 41-year-old woman dead and two witnesses traumatized. The NYC Fire Department confirmed the accident happened around 10 a.m. at 285 Madison Ave. The name of the woman has not been released.

According to reports, the woman was pulled between the elevator and the shaft when her foot or leg got caught in the doors as they were closing. The elevator sudden began ascending, dragging the woman up two floors. The elevator then became stuck.

Two people were inside the elevator at the time of the accident and witnessed the woman’s death. They were not physically injured, but were taken to New York University Hospital for trauma.

The building was evacuated before the fire department began trying to remove the woman’s body, which one official described as being “mangled up really bad.”
