Officials in Mexico announced Tuesday the capture of one of their 37 most-wanted criminals. Zetas drug cartel co-founder and key leader Raul Lucio Hernandez Lechuga, also known as “El Lucky” was arrested by the Mexican Navy Monday in Cordoba, Veracruz state. The navy said “intense intelligence work” led them to Lechuga.
A Zetas member was killed and a navy service member was wounded in a shootout that led up to the arrests of Lechuga and four of his associates. Officials have not identified the four men arrested with Lechuga.
Lechuga, also known as Z-16, is believed to be the leader of Zetas activities in the states of Veracruz, Oaxaca and Puebla. He worked closely with Zetas leader Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano.
