Suzanne Hart, a 41 year-old advertising executive for Young & Rubicam, died early on Wednesday in a bizarre elevator accident at the company’s Manhattan office building.
According the New York Fire Department, Hart was stepping onto the elevator when one foot got trapped in the elevator door and she became trapped. The elevator then shot up, trapping Hart between the elevator and the shaft wall. It appears as her body stopped the elevator. A man and woman inside the elevator were unable to help and watched in horror as Hart died.
It took rescue workers about an hour to free the man and woman from inside the elevator. Witnesses have said that Hart’s body was mangled.
Many are left to wonder what caused this terrible accident at 285 Madison Avenue. The New York Times reported that elevator in the building have been given unsatisfactory inspections over the last two years, according to information they obtained from the Department of Buildings records. It is unclear if the malfunctioning elevator received a bad inspection.
The people affected by a tragic accident can get some sense of justice when they employ an accident attorney. They will assure the victim receives damages for their anguish.
An accident lawyer will work to determine which parties are responsible for malfunctioning equipment. When an accident lawyer files a civil lawsuit they are aimed at making careless parties pay for their irresponsibility.
