A new HBO documentary called “About Face” will take on the issues of aging and plastic surgery among models.
The documentary features some names that were once top models in the fashion industry. Among the models interviewed include Jerry Hall, 55, who graced dozens of magazine covers, Paulina Porizkova, 49, and Isabella Rossellini, 59. They also spoke to the oldest working model Carmen Dell’Orefice, who is eighty.
“About Face” focuses on aging and how it has affected the
women’s careers. It also highlights our society’s obsession with youth. To
retain a youthful look many men and women will turn to cosmetic surgery for
face-lifts, injections and even liposuction.
The women featured have mixed emotions about plastic surgery, while Hall is against having cosmetic enhancements, Dell’Orefice is pro-plastic surgery. Dell’Orefice puts it in a pragmatic context, “Well, if you had the ceiling falling down on you in your living room, would you not go and have a repair.”
This is the viewpoint of many people young and old who feel that breast augmentations, lifts and liposuction are necessary to repair their physical flaws or combat the effects of aging.
Plastic surgery isn’t for everyone but many people, young and old, have reaped the benefits that plastic surgery can have for their personal and professional lives. Liposuction can give a trimmer and toned figure, while a nip/tuck here and there can eliminate sagging skin.
“About Face” will debut at the Sundance Film Festival and will air on HBO next summer.
