eBay Sellers Gear Up For Last Minute Panic Buying

The industry standard for parcel delivery to arrive before Christmas is for pick-up to take place on Thursday or Friday to deliver Saturday. Leading online parcel delivery comparison site, Planet-Parcel.com, recommends the following "for the best guarantee of delivery on Christmas Eve or before, we would recommend sending by Wednesday at the latest due to the unusual volumes at this time of year."

We spoke to one eBay merchant who said "The tradition of men buying everything on Christmas Eve has been brought forward a couple of days in the online world. We try to be prepared for the next two days because we can still ship stuff out and about in the UK using online parcel services, but time is running out."

The Planet Parcel website, a site specialising in parcel deliveries which compares the market for best price deals amongst carriers such as Citylink and Parcelforce claims that Wednesday 21st is the last reasonable day when people can expect things to be picked up and delivered on time. So today eBay expect to take quite a few bookings for a range of goods.

Typical goods which people choose to buy last minute include quirky or different items which aren’t easily found on the High Street as well as more traditional goods, often at a cheaper price which may have become out-of-stock in retail outlets dealing with the Christmas rush. It is one of the busiest times of the year for eBay and for UK parcel delivery companies.
