Chaz Bono and longtime girlfriend Jennifer Elia have ended their engagement, a rep for the couple confirms. Publicist Howard Bragman tells People magazine Bono and Elia called it quits “with great love, respect and affection towards one another.”
"No further amplification will be forthcoming and they ask that you respect their privacy at this time,” Bragman added.
Bono later Tweeted about the news. "Thanks for your concern about our separation. I'm doing fine, and we remain on good terms with nothing but respect and affection 4 each other,” the former Dancing with the Stars contestant wrote.
The 42-year-old began dating Elia in 2006, two years before deciding to undergo a sex change. Bono proposed earlier this year. The proposal and Bono’s gender transition was featured in the documentary “Become Chaz,” which debuted on the Oprah Winfrey Network in May.
