Conservative Iranian Newspaper Calls for Treason Charges to be Filed Against Mir Hossein Mousavi

A conservative Iranian newspaper has called for treason charges to be lodged against opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, claiming he was an agent for the United States and bore the responsibility for the unrest that followed the country’s recent presidential elections.

According to an editorial published in the Kayhan daily paper Mousavi was guilty of “killing innocent people, inciting riots, hiring thugs to assault people, evident co-operation with foreigners and playing the part of US fifth column.”

Following the controversial presidential elections that kept President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in office tens of thousands of protestors took to the streets, claiming voter fraud and demanding a re-vote.

Mousavi has made no comment regarding the claims but Kayham, whose editor is appointed by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has said they have “undeniable documents” that prove their accusations.
