A police officer who had been kidnapped Monday night in Mexico’s Chihuahua state was burned alive Tuesday in the middle of a Ciudad Juarez street. Prosecutors say unknown assailants dumped Jose Everardo, whose hands and feet were bound, in the middle of the street around 8:30 a.m. He was then sprayed with flammable liquid and set afire.
Several people witnessed the brutal killing. Authorities found Everardo’s charred body lying face-down on the street. A note from the attackers was left nearby. Prosecutors did not reveal what the note said.
None of the attackers have been arrested. No other details on the crime were released. The Chihuahua State Attorney General's Office said Everardo is the 33rd municipal police officer in Juarez to be killed this year.
