2009 MLB All-Star Game Starters, Pitchers and Reserves Announced
The 2009 MLB All-Star game, set for St. Louis on Tuesday day, July 14, now has its complete roster set with both National League and American League players getting the news on Sunday.
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols was the top vote-getter among all MLB players while New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter topped the list among all American League players. Pujols will be joined in the starting lineup by teammate Yadier Molina behind the plate. Both Philadelphia and New York will have a pair of players in the starting lineup as well as Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez earned the trip for the Phillies while Carlos Beltran and David Wright will represent the Mets.
Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez received the most votes among shortstops to get the start while Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers earned an outfield spot to round out the position starters among National League players.
The American League will counter with an impressive starting lineup that consists of Derek Jeter at short along with his Yankees teammate Mark Teixeira at first. Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox will get the start at second and teammate Jason Bay earned a spot in the starting outfield. That outfield will be rounded out by the Seattle Mariners Ichiro Suzuki and the Texas Rangers Josh Hamilton.
Evan Longoria of the Tampa Bay Rays will start at third and Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer will be behind the plate when the 80th All-Star game gets started.
