Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather was sentenced Wednesday to six months in jail and 100 hours of community service in a plea deal that reduced felony domestic violence charges to misdemeanors. Half of the sentence was suspended, so Mayweather will only serve 3 months. He must surrender to Clark County jail on January 6, 2012.
In addition to jail time and community service, the Las Vegas judge ordered the 34-year-old to pay a $2,500 fine and complete a 12 month counseling program on domestic violence. "Punishment is appropriate," Judge Melissa Saragosa said. "No matter who you are, you have consequences to your actions when they escalate to this level of violence.”
The charges stem from a September 2010 incident involving Mayweather, ex-girlfriend Josie Harris and their three children. Harris claimed Mayweather punched her in the face and twisted her arm while she cried out for one of their three children to call police. She was treated at a Las Vegas for injuries sustained in the altercation.
