The first winner of The X Factor was crowned on last night’s season one finale. It was down to Melanie Amaro, Chris Rene and Josh Krajcik for the final elimination rounds. Chris Rene was the first to be booted, leaving Amaro and Krajcik in the final two. In the end, Simon Cowell’s prediction that Amaro would win turned out to be right!
The 19-year-old’s X Factor ride was rocky. She was originally eliminated in an early round, but then Cowell invited her to return to the show. After host Steve Jones revealed her as the winner, Amaro could only repeat, “Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!"
Speaking to Us Weekly magazine after the show, Amaro said she felt blessed. "For me to have won was big. I feel blessed and I feel happy. I have worked so hard to get here and I truly deserve this,” she said.
Amaro took home a $5 million recording contract.
