There has been a great deal of discussion recently about the differences between mainstream treatment centers and Christian rehab. The differences are subtle. Christian rehab centers incorporate many of the tried and true practices of traditional addiction treatment centers, but use faith, prayer and spiritual growth as a tools to help addicts find hope for a renewed life.
Mainstream treatment centers often use the 12 step model for recovery and guide addicts in recovery towards taking life one day at a time. There is nothing wrong in choosing a mainstream or traditional treatment center. In fact, mainstream treatment centers have helped countless numbers of people over the years. Christian rehab has increased in popularity in recent years, however, because people are looking for something "extra" and strengthening one’s faith, or perhaps discovering one’s spiritual side for the first time.
Every treatment center, whether mainstream or Christian, exists to help addicts reclaim their physical and emotional health with freedom from addiction. Addiction to drugs and alcohol destroys lives, but Christian rehabs seek to build confidence in one’s spiritual health. Achieving sobriety is a reachable goal in either a mainstream or Christian treatment center, but becoming a warrior of faith is attainable in a Christian rehab program.
People who choose a Christian rehab are often surprised at how much faith and spirituality helps them on their journey to recovery. The Bible is utilized as a guidebook, and addicts learn how to rely on a strength that cannot be measured – their faith in God and Jesus Christ. While neither treatment center program is a bad choice, Christian rehab provides addicts with the spiritual tools they need for lasting recovery
