Somali pirates hijacked an Italian tanker early Tuesday morning in the Arabian Sea, officials have confirmed. The Enrico levoli, owned by Naples-based Marnavi, was loaded with 16,000 tons of caustic soda from the United Arab Emirates when it was seized off the coast of Oman.
According to Marnavi, eighteen crew members were on board. The crew includes six Italians, five Ukrainians and seven Indians. Marnavi director Domenico Ievoli said the captain of the tanker reported all crew members were “fine” after the attack.
"As far as we know, the Ievoli is currently in movement towards an unknown destination. We presume it's Somalia,” levoli told AFP.
