American Idol alum Danny Gokey shared some special news Tuesday on the website of his charity Sophia’s Heart. Gokey announced he plans to wed girlfriend Leyicet Peralta next month.
"He is thrilled to have found Leyicet who also shares his passion and desire to help children and families in need,” says a post on the website.
Gokey and Peralta also released a statement, saying, "We are thankful for so many of the blessings God has given us. It is our desire to see homeless children and families be kept together and lifted back on their feet through the help of Sophia's Heart. We love and appreciate you all.”
The couple requests donations are made to Sophia’s Heart in lieu of wedding gifts. Gokey founded Sophia’s Heart shortly after the death of his wife Sophia in 2008. The charity aims to “help mend and heal the hearts of children and families who have been touched by poverty, sickness, disease, broken homes and broken dreams,” according to a message on the website.
