Joe Bodolai, a comedy writer who wrote for Saturday Night Live and worked with stars like Mike Meyers, has died. According to reports, Bodolai was found dead of an apparent suicide in his Los Angeles hotel room Monday afternoon. Police believe Bodolai drank a mixture of Gatorade and antifreeze. A bottle of the mixture of found near Bodolai’s body, according to a spokesman for the coroner’s officer.
Bodolai had been staying at the hotel since December 19. He posted what appears to be a suicide note on his blog “Say It Ain’t So Joe.” In the December 23rd entry, which is titled “If This Was Your Last Day Alive What Would You Do?,” Bodolai writes about several topics including “Things I Regret,” “Things I Am Proud Of” and “Stuff I Would Like to Have Seen In My Life.” He ended the post with, "May you all have the happy lives you deserve. Thank you all for being in my life."
In addition to writing for SNL from 1981 to 1982, Bodolai co-wrote the first draft of the 1992 comedy “Wayne’s World,” produced 20 episodes of Canada’s “The Kids in the Hall” and co-founded the Canadian TV network “The Comedy Network.”
