Balboa Park Buskers Mark Danisozsky, Jessica Avila, Anna Yanushkevich, Stephen Sloan & Carl Overstreet Jr. with volunteer of the day,
television star Mark Christopher Lawrence.
The street performing scene in Balboa Park has long been a hidden asset of talent in San Diego. “People are realizing that in this budget conscious environment, street performing is the best bang for the buck." says Kamatoy who, with Sloan, promises hours of high-quality entertainment for less than the cost of a single admission to a movie with beautiful Balboa Park as the backdrop. David Kamatoy's show consists of a 30-40 min. performance of various juggling tricks and stand-up humor. In his show he juggles everything from balls to clubs and even plungers. "We used to be able to juggle fire, but that is now banned...Uh, I had nothing to do with that." says Kamatoy.
"This Holiday week brings a great mix of both of locals and visitors, which makes for a great performing climate. We have lots of locals bringing their out-of-town visitors to the park to see the shows. We’ve entertained people this week from Indiana, Arizona, Utah and Costa Rica.” says Veteran Performer Stephen Sloan, aka "Sleeveless the Magician," who does a classic magic show for families that features "the oldest trick in magic" - Cups and Balls. Sloan has a long history performing at SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo, his show is a humorous mixture of magic and audience involvement.
Jimmy Talksalot is a true street performing magician who literally wrote the book on street performing entitled, “To Lure With Spectacle.” Jimmy has an exceptional show and often up and coming magicians can be found working alongside Jimmy as he mentors them. “I have performed in venues around the world, and I have to admit that this is an exceptional week to be on either side of the rope. It’s a blast.”
Also on hand will be Pops Pedicab, one of the best looking pedicab rigs in the city. He offers rides and tours of Balboa Park that are donation based. A pedicab is a great way to enjoy the park in a new way or for the first time.
In addition roving performers Jessica Avila, Hand Balancing Contortionist & Anna Yanushkevich, Hoop Spinner & Dancer will be joining David Kamatoy & Stephen Sloan on the Street.
