A rogue Afghan soldier opened fire on NATO forces in Tagab valley Thursday, leaving two French soldiers dead. French Defense Minister Gerard Longuet confirmed the soldiers’ deaths and condemned the shooting as a “cowardly act.” The soldiers were part of the 2nd regiment of the Foreign Legion. Their names have not been released.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the shooting. Spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid identified the shooter as Mohammed Ibrahim. He said Ibrahim was killed by NATO troops shortly after opening fire at a base in Shamshad, Kapisa province.
Thursday’s attack comes five days after an Afghan soldier opened fire on American troops in Farah province. According to reports, four Americans were wounded and the shooter was shot and killed.
