Four civilians died and one other was wounded Friday when their vehicle hit a roadside bomb. The incident occurred in Trinkot city, Uruzgan province. The Taliban did not claim responsibility for planting the bomb, but Uruzgan CID chief Gulab Khan said the group was responsible.
ISAF commander General John Allen condemned the attack. "Those responsible for this shameful attack must be held to account for their actions against the people of Afghanistan," Allen said.
The attack comes one day after 10 people were killed by a roadside bomb in the Nad Ali district of Helmand province. All of the victims were Afghan police officers.
Meanwhile, the AFP reports police in Trinkot stopped a suicide bomber from detonating his explosives Friday. The bomber was shot and killed along with an accomplice. They men intended to target a police commander.
