On the heels of rumors of a breakup, Russell Brand has filed for divorce from Katy Perry. The actor cited irreconcilable differences in court papers filed Friday in Los Angeles. He confirmed the news in a statement to People magazine.
“Sadly, Katy and I are ending out marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends,” Brand, 36, said.
Perry, 27, has not commented. Rumors of a split began circulating this week after the pair was spotted in separate countries without their wedding rings. Perry spent the Christmas holiday in Hawaii while Brand was in London.
Brand and Perry dated for four months before becoming engaged in December 2009. They were married 10 months later in a tradition Hindu ceremony in India.
