originated on the west coast of the US and over time have spread to the east coast. Today, there are Sober living houses in every state in the country that provide a place of residence to recovering addicts while they transition from rehab back into society. The concept grew out of the need for these individuals to have a safe and supportive environment to continue the recovery process in once they had left the in-patient addiction treatment and recovery program that they were enrolled in.
While in residency in these Sober living houses, the individual participates in evening time group therapy sessions so that they can pursue finding a job or continuing their education during the daytime. Additionally, they adhere to certain guidelines while in residency in the home including:
No two Sober living houses are alike and are based primarily on the types of recovering individuals that are residing in them. There will always be certain rules that the individual has to follow while staying there. The most common rules include the following:
Although the above is characteristic of these residences, determining how successful these Sober living houses are at enabling the individual to completely recover and return home to their communities has been difficult. These homes are a relatively new aspect of the addiction treatment and recovery process and not much research has been conducted to determine how successful these programs are.
Our residential facility offers our clients the opportunity to stay in residency here as long as they need to with our Sober living houses programs that we currently offer. There is never a time limit set on the length of residency in the program because the transition process from rehab to re-entering society is different for every individual. The goal is for the individual to have the confidence they need to return home to their communities without the fear of relapsing back into their addictions.
The Sober living houses programs here at the Delray Recovery Center are intensive out-patient agendas that provide the client with the freedom to conduct their lives during the day like they normally would. You are free to continue your education or pursue finding a job.
