Steve McNair Death Ruled a Homicide, Sahel Kazemi Death Investigated

The death of NFL star Steve McNair has been ruled a homicide, though police have not classified the death of his girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi.

McNair, 36, and Kazemi, 20, were found shot to death Saturday in a condominium in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. McNair, a married father of 4, was shot twice in the head and twice in the chest. Kazemi was shot once in the head.

The couple, who had been dating for several months, was found by the former football player’s friend Wayne Neeley, who rented the condo with him. Neeley called his friend Robert Gaddy upon finding the bodies and Gaddy called police. There were no signs of forced entry at the condo.

McNair was found sitting on a couch while Kazemi was lying on the floor. A semi-automatic pistol was found under Kazemi’s body.

Autopsies on the pair were completed Sunday. Investigators say they haven’t ruled out a murder-suicide.

McNair played 13 seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Tennessee Titans. He spent his last two seasons playing for the Baltimore Ravens. McNair retired in April 2008. His wife of 12 years, Mechelle Cartwright, has not commented.
