Craig Swapp & Associates is now accepting personal injury cases where women’s health has been threatened by certain popular birth control drugs, including Yasmin and YAZ (or their generic equivalent Ocella).
Says Attorney Craig Swapp, “The Food and Drug Administration has been investigating possible dangers to a woman’s health after taking Yasmin, YAZ and Ocella. The main problem is that these prescription drugs contain drospirenone, which is a strong progestin. The FDA is worried that high levels of progestin can lead to certain dangerous cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks, strokes and blood clots.”
The use of YAZ, Yasmin and Ocella has also been linked to other dangerous risks including deep vein thrombosis, cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heart beat or palpitations) and other health-threatening medical issues – such as gallbladder disease or heptic ademoma (benign liver tumors). In some situations, women have died from these
Yasmin side effects.
“Yasmin, YAZ and Ocella are currently used by millions of women as a birth control pill in the United States,” says Swapp. “These drugs are very popular with women because they are marketed as having secondary benefits such as controlling acne and helping with premenstrual syndrome. Unfortunately, these benefits are not worth the risk of an unexpected cardiovascular event.”
Annual sales of YAZ, Yasmin and Ocella have exceeded $600 million. Yasmin and YAZ were introduced in 2001 by the large pharmaceutical company Bayer. (Ocella is a product of Barr Industries.) According to Swapp, Bayer was ordered by the Food and Drug Administration in February 2009 to change its Yasmin and YAZ advertising to clearly emphasize the serious side effects of these drugs. YAZ® and Yasmin® are registered trademarks of Bayer, while Ocella® is a trademark of Barr Industries.
Swapp concludes, “If women have experienced serious cardiovascular injuries after taking YAZ, Yasmin or Ocella, our
Yasmin lawsuit lawyers would be happy to discuss how to protect their legal rights as part of our free consultation. They also may be entitled to full compensation for their medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering. Where death has occurred, we are currently assisting families who are dealing with the loss of their loved one.”
