Pakistani security forces acting on intelligence information killed six suspected Taliban militants and arrested 13 others Wednesday morning in Balochistan province. A senior official identified as Hamid ul Karim said intelligence led the military to the militants’ location in the Zhob area of Balochistan.
Gunfire was exchanged during the operation, leaving at least two soldiers wounded. Weapons and ammunition were recovered along with the 13 militants. Karim said the situation is under investigation.
No other details were available. Pakistani government sources say a disagreement between Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud and his deputy, Wali-ur-Rehman, resulted in the deaths of seven militants Wednesday in a tribal area near the border of Afghanistan. It is unclear why the men are fighting.
