Indie darlings Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard announced they were splitting up around Halloween, much to the dismay of fans.
TMZ has now discovered that the Zooey officially filed for divorce just two days after Christmas. And like many people who seek out a divorce attorney to end their nuptials, Zooey cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for divorce.
The marriage between the quirky actress and the front man for Death Cab for Cutie only lasted a couple of years and they don’t have any children.
The couple has not talked openly about their split. Zooey has been busy promoting her show and band via Twitter, but Ben’s account has been silent since the pair split.
TMZ also released Zooey’s financial reports, and although she doesn’t have quite the wealth of other celebrities, she still has a roughly $3 million in the bank and in stocks and bonds. There are no reports on Gibbard’s financials.
Separating two intertwined lives can be complicated. A divorce attorney must work out how a couple will divide their mutual assets. Under California law spouses are entitled to half of their spouse’s income and financial assets.
There doesn’t seem to be any hard feelings between Zooey and Ben, but this is not the norm. Sometimes couples entangled in a divorce can be bitter and want to take revenge, but with the reasonable guidance of a divorce lawyer can help the couple work out their differences and reach an agreeable settlement.
