Shortly after confirming his engagement to Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer, Jeremy Calvert took to his Twitter page to deny speculation MTV paid for the 1.5 carat princess cut diamond ring he proposed with.
“umm FYI I don’t make a penny from MTV my own money bought it!” Calvert wrote on January 4.
“well I work 6 to 7 days a week outside in the cold to make my money and I’ll spend it how I want,” he later added.
Calvert, 22, recently confirmed his engagement to Messer, 19, and announced her pregnancy in an interview with Reality Weekly. “Yes, Leah is having my baby! I was at work when Leah called to tell me. She’d gotten blood work done and it came back positive. At first I was kind of surprised – but I was happy,” he said.
As for his Christmas Day proposal, Calvert revealed, “I bought an ornament for the tree that said ‘Engaged’ with both our names on it and the date. And when I saw Leah looking at it, that’s when I gave her the ring.”
This will be Messer’s second marriage. Her marriage to Corey Simms, the father of her 2-year-old twins Aliannah and Aleeah, ended in April 2011 after just six months. Messer, 19, has not commented. Her life with Simms and the twins is chronicled on Teen Mom 2.
