Detroit Tiger’s Miguel Cabrera pleads no contest to DUI

Last February, Detroit Tiger’s Miguel Cabrera was arrested for DUI and resisting arrest. He appeared in court on today and pleaded no contest, almost eleven months after he was charged.

In exchange for pleading no contest the resisting charges will dropped and he will not be spending any time in jail. This shows how important it is to get out front and hire a DUI attorney to do damage control.

When police stopped Cabrera he smelled of alcohol had blood shot eyes and slurred speech. He refused a blood test and while being cuffed he pushed the officer into his vehicle. The police report also stated that Cabrera lifted a bottle of whiskey and began drinking from it at the scene.

His plea agreement requires that he attend DUI school and victim-impact panel which includes people who have been injured by intoxicated drivers. He will also serve one year probation with no travel restrictions and pay fines. These are typical penalties for a DUI.

Luckily for Cabrera, his career was not irreparably damaged by his DUI. For some DUI offenders their working future can be severely impacted and their best hope for preventing this is by hiring a DUI attorney.

A DUI lawyer spends hour in court and knows how the judges operate. This gives you the offender an advantage when facing these charges. Without your lawyer you could wind up in jail or lose your license.
