With Tebow-mania running rampant in the media, we feel compelled to state our opinion on the importance of thanking God. Now, we understand that this is a controversial topic. There are many people–some who may be our readers–who self-identify as atheist. Nonetheless, we wish to express our opinion.
At Elite Daily, we hold religious tolerance to be an imperative. Hopefully, we do not offend with this piece.
We are true believers in a higher power. Regardless of your religious denomination of choice, we all share a common belief in a higher being (or, beings, for some of you). There is common ground in that we all recognize that there is something greater than our level of comprehension working in the world. We feel that taking life’s blessings for granted is becoming increasingly commonplace in today’s society. We must remember that there are many out there who are less fortunate than ourselves. In fact, 3.5 billion people–almost half of the world’s population– live in poverty.
Further, only around 7% of the worlds population has received a college education. These two facts alone should make you be appreciative of the opportunities afforded to you. Consider that having the leisure time to enjoy this post on a functioning computer is a luxury in itself.
We’re not here to preach to you. Our goal is not to convert you into a priest, rabbi, or clergyman. We do not believe we have the right to reprimand you for living your life as you see fit. It is your prerogative. However, we hold that it is crucial to spend some time–even a total of 20 short seconds out of your day–thanking God. Giving a simple “thanks”, even within the confines of your mind, goes a very long way. It indicates a level of appreciation we believe is absent in today’s society.
The most recent sensation pegged as “Gods Angel” by the media is Tim Tebow. Tebow is a very spiritual man and a strong believer in the Lord above. What we feel makes him so special is that no one anticipated that he would be performing the way he has been in the NFL. In fact, few expected him to be a starting quarterback.
Nonetheless, today we find him leading his team to a playoff victory over the number one passing defense in the country–The Pittsburgh Steelers. Tebow makes sure that to thank God for everything for he has been blessed with. Deem it a fluke if you want, but we believe his humble, God-fearing nature assisted in his victory. Here is a recent quote from Tebow:
“When I saw him scoring, first of all, I just thought, `Thank you, Lord,”‘ Tebow said. “Then, I was running pretty fast, chasing him — Like I can catch up to D.T! Then I just jumped into the stands, first time I’ve done that. That was fun. Then, got on a knee and thanked the Lord again and tried to celebrate with my teammates and the fans.”
He is setting a great example for our youth today–expressing ideals many seem to have forgotten with time. He indulges in time-tested ideals instead of engaging in comical celebrity antics: like partaking in headline grabbing marriages resulting in divorce in 72 days (Kim Kardashian, cough cough) or going to jail for spousal abuse (Floyd Mayweather, cough cough). The world needs someone like to Tebow to provide an example of a humble, ambitious leader who remains uncorrupted by our tragic society.
Kanye West, another spiritual, God-fearing celebrity is a faithful believer in the Lord above. Time and time again, the man thanks God for everything that he has been blessed with–to the point of releasing a song called “Jesus Walks”, his tribute to his spirituality . West nearly lost his life in a car accident and views this moment as the turning point in his life.
But I have to just thank God for the situation that I am in, Kanye West
A sizable number of the highest achieving figures in our society are also among the ranks of the religious faithful. Despite their many notable accomplishments, they continue to thank God everyday for their blessings. To grasp the effectiveness of daily prayer, ponder this quote from one of our readers. “My life changed drastically after I began thanking God every single day.”
Here at Elite, we aim to have a positive influence on our readers. We truly hope all of you can spare a moment to thank God everyday. If you don’t believe, we sincerely hope that you eventually come to do so.
Here’s something to consider: How many times have you witnessed an award-winning celebrity begin an acceptance speech by thanking God?
We’re sure you can recall countless examples. If these titans of our society can take pause to thank the Lord, we certainly should be able to as well.
