New Jersey company sued by EPA for improper asbestos removal

Asbestos is a material that was used throughout the 20th century in many different types of buildings and on ships. It was once prized for its fire-retardant properties until health officials discovered it can cause detrimental lung diseases like mesothelioma and asbestosis. Numerous companies have been sued by mesothelioma attorneys for unnecessarily exposing people to the hazardous materials.

In light of this, asbestos was banned for use in buildings and strict regulations have been imposed on companies who are hired to remove the material from buildings. But many asbestos abatement companies try to cut costs and remove asbestos without following federal guidelines.

Such is the case of a Gibbstown, New Jersey company, Lovett Contracting Inc. hired to demolish a building on the site of a former DuPont plant that produced gunpowder.  The company has been accused of violating the Federal Clean Air Act and the National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants.  The Environmental Protection Agency is seeking to fine the Lovett Contracting Inc. $32,000 for each of the six counts against them, per day for the 2 month demolition project.

The Environmental Protection Agency has continued their crackdown on companies that illegally remove asbestos. This material can be so detrimental to a person’s health that the people who contract related diseases often hire mesothelioma lawyers to obtain compensation necessary for their medical care.

A lawsuit filed with the help of a mesothelioma attorney, can give the victims of asbestos exposure a sense that justice is being served.
