Sarah Burke, a ski pro who has won four gold medals at the Winter X Games, was injured in a ski accident Tuesday and is in critical condition at a Utah hospital. Burke, 29, was training in Park City when she fell doing a trick on a superpipe. Peter Judge, the CEO of the Canadian freestyle team, said Burke appeared to have “bounced from her feet to her head” after landing the trick.
"This is an extremely unfortunate situation and we are awaiting further word on Sarah’s condition," he added. "She is an incredibly resilient and strong young woman and we are hoping she will draw on that strength at this time. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this time.”
Burke was airlifted to the University of Utah Health Center where she remains in a coma. Her husband, skier Rory Bushfield, is confident she will recover. “Sarah is a very strong young woman and she will most certainly fight to recover,” he said.
