A 27 year old was involved in a drug stop this week and it was found that he had choked to death. What he was doing was swallowing a plastic bag of suspected cocaine, marijuana and heroin. This is what was found when there was a preliminary autopsy done on Wayne Michael Williams of Houma.
Agents alleged saw Williams while he was sitting in the driver’s seat of a Mercury Grand marquis when he exchanged an object with 20 year old Rico Moultrie, who was arrested on drug-distribution charges. While Williams was driving off; at the same time swallowed something as the agents went up to his car. Williams was then shocked with a Taser and handcuffed before agents even noticed that he wasn’t breathing. One bag of suspected cocaine was pulled from his throat. Medics found this while he was in the ambulance on his way to the hospital. Later another bag was taken out of his body with heroin and marijuana in the bag. He was taken to Leonard J Chabert Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Louisiana inpatient drug rehab programs have found that many tragedies like this occur throughout the state each year.
The Terrebonne Narcotics Task Force was accused of heavy handed tactics by Williams’s family and other people who live in the Daniel turner Trailer court. They are not believing the police’s story of what happen to Wayne.
The Sheriff’s office of Terrebonne parish did conduct an internal review of the deputies who were on the scene and they were all cleared and returned to work. “There was no indication that a Taser used to subdue Williams during the arrest played a role in his death”, Gary Alford Said.
Drug rehabs in Lafayette says that drug distribution and drug abuse are major causes of crime in the area.
The Taser had a video camera that started when it was used and the video supports the agent’s actions. The whole incident is still under review.
