The first date: This is the moment that can make or break your chances with a girl. First dates provide a critical first impression for a potential beau. How you look, act, and present yourself will mean everything to a woman. She’s analyzing every word that comes out of your mouth and every single action you take, or even the ones you don’t.
Sure–the way you’re dressed, how well groomed you are, and your ability to articulate your speech are all very important; but the deciding factor–and what might just turn her off–is how you eat during your date.
Our team at Elite has put together a simple guide to make sure you’re aware of foods you should stay far, FAR away from on the first date. Remember guys: always keep it simple. The best advice I can offer you: Have a light snack before dinner to make sure you don’t arrive at the table with hungry eyes–ready to turn into a savage and devour the upcoming entree.
Here is our list of foods you should avoid:
Pasta or Spaghetti
The reason we’re starting with this one is because it’s an underestimated date-killer. You’d think that pasta would be a safe choice, but trust us–you’re wrong. This is a dangerous situation to place yourself in because you run the risk of getting pasta on your shirt. If that happens, you might as well just head home. No girl is going to want a slob.
Spaghetti in particular has a high risk of flinging sauce on your shirt because it’s long and stringy. To eat spaghetti politely and properly, you need to use a fork and spoon. Can we also mention that you might make the mistake of slurping your food? Gross. The risk is not worth the reward. Stay away at all costs.
Spinach
You might be wondering, “What’s wrong with spinach?” At first thought, pretty much nothing. Sure, it tastes great–but what you haven’t considered is at the end of the night, when you go up to your mirror, you will be greeted with a mouthful of spinach! After that, you’ll realize why she didn’t come back with you at the end of the date.
Side note: Pesto and any other small greens are equally as dangerous. Stay away!
Onions and Garlic
These killers are just as dangerous separately as they are together. The presence of either of these ingredients in your dish will kill any chance of getting a goodnight kiss after the date. Your breath will be rancid for the next few hours and she will be truly disgusted every time you talk.
Burgers or Sliders
Imagine: You’re at STK, and your very anxious about whether or not you should order your favorite Kobe beef sliders. Stop right there! There is NOTHING more dangerous then a burger. Not only will it leave your hands smelling like food, but burgers are also EXTREMELY messy.
There’s also a high probability that some element of your sandwich–be it a tomato, pickle, or the patty itself–will pop out on the first bite. Just like with the spaghetti, you run the risk of staining your new Tom Ford blazer. At this point, not only have you lost any chance with the girl, but your dry cleaner is going to hate you as well.
Steak
Like all real men out there, I’m sure your skirt steak, t-bone, or perhaps even a delicious filet. However, we’d recommend you fight your carnivore urges at this point. Some cuts of meat may be difficult to cut while still actively engaging her in conversation. It’s highly likely that you’ll make a huge mess on your plate–and God forbid if something slips while you’re holding a sharp knife.
Lobster and Crab
We recommend avoiding these feeds precisely because they require you to use your hands. Anything that requires you to use your hands will be messy and leave a smell behind. It’s never a good look to have hands smelling fishy–be it from the food you’re eating, or from messing around with some unhygienic female. Look, guys–just avoid eating with your hands whenever possible.
Ok, by now we’re pretty sure you’re really pissed at us. We’ve likely named every delicious food you were craving. Call us the overbearing parent you hate for being right, but we’d prefer to be something more like… the big brother to look up to. We know what will make you’re date go smoothly–so trust us.
