Facebook–the world’s largest social network and the only site better than Elite Daily. There are some things we should consider before we begin:
-When women are mad, they’ll go to great lengths to embarrass you on Facebook.
-Some women post misleading photos of themselves on Facebook.
-Other girls put themselves in fake “relationships.”
“Women are trained in the art of creating, maintaining and controlling relationships.”
Facebook–the biggest cultural phenomenon of the 21st century–allows you to reconnect with your best friend from elementary school, keep up with your buddy’s travels, and avoid those dreaded hour-long phone conversations with your aunt. It truly is a remarkable tool. But, as with most things, there is a dark side to Facebook.
While your male brain probably hasn’t wrapped itself around the manipulative potential of this seemingly innocuous social networking tool, chances are several of the women you know have. Women are trained in the art of creating, maintaining, and controlling relationships–and Facebook is an additional weapon in their arsenal–used to keep tabs on, and have an influence over people. Here’s a list of some crazy things women do on Facebook:
1. Women set up fake profiles to follow exes on Facebook
This one may seem a bit extreme, but it is certainly not unheard of for a woman to create a fake Facebook persona in order to creep on her ex. At the very least, she might get a mutual friend to allow her a little access to an ex’s Facebook page.
Whether you had a rough breakup or it was a mutual decision, if you don’t keep in touch, she probably wants to know what you’re up to. Instead of calling or e-mailing you, it’s easier and less embarrassing to scope out your profile while you are blissfully unaware of her covert activities. If you want to prevent this from happening, don’t add any strangers to your friends list. If you have a mutual friend still in touch with her, try to keep your interactions limited.
Side note: We know some of you men out there are guilty of this as well. Grow a pair.
2. Women manipulate through Facebook photos
The photos a woman posts on her profile can be innocent, or they can be totally manipulative. Another crazy thing women do on Facebook is put up embarrassing or compromising photos of people that have dared to cross her. When a guy breaks up with his girlfriend and comes across tagged photos of him in one of her dresses, it’s not only vindictive–but also pretty darn immature.
A woman might also use her Facebook photos to present an image of herself that is the polar opposite of reality. Facebook allows us to promote the image of us we want the world to see–it’s usually not an accurate reflection of life. In her photos she might appear more attractive, more adventurous, and altogether more exciting than she is in real life. Proceed with caution when you friend that “hot” girl on Facebook.
3. Women post passive-aggressive Facebook status updates
The Facebook status update can provide the opportunity to share important life updates, or just provide a list of the mundane activities of your day. For some women, status updates provide an opportunity for relentless, manipulative emotional venting. Whether it’s because she hates confrontation or she just wants the world to know what a jerk her boyfriend is, some women use their status updates to air out complaints about their lives.
Some particularly immature women will use these updates as a platform to complain about their relationships instead of having the decency to discuss it with their significant others.
For example: “Jessica visited the jewelery store and is tired of waiting!!!!” could be a not-so-subtle clue that she doesn’t want to wait for that engagement ring much longer. Post-breakup, a woman might post status updates that hint at a crazy social life: “Melanie is exhausted from a crazy night!” or “Great night out with the girls. So glad to be free ”, are reflective of the types of messages that carry some less-than-subtle jabs when they come immediately after a big breakup.
Another one we have encountered post-breakup is, “So glad to start the New Year off with my girls! All the single ladies!”. These are all just examples of sad pleas for attention.
4. Women post ambiguous relationship photos
It’s not uncommon to see pictures of women with their arms around their friends–kissing them on the cheek–whether their friends are men or women. For some, these may be innocuous expressions of affection for their good friends. For others, these pictures could be desperate attempt to elicit an envious response from their partners. These ambiguous photos with other men could also cause other people to question the strength and stability of their relationship.
If it’s a single girl posting these sorts of ambiguous photos with men, it can throw potential suitors–causing them to be unsure of her availability and whether its safe to make a move.
Posting a fake relationship status
Some available women choose “in a relationship” for their profile for the sole purpose of avoiding “single-girl-pitying”. Others do so to avoid the matchmaking attempts that go hand-in-hand with said pity. An of-age single woman is a prime target for people who think everyone should be paired off in “happily ever after” relationships.
Quick-thinking women oftentimes participate in phony relationships to ensure that their availability remains ambiguous for the purpose of avoiding unwelcome suitors. A few single women even arrange phony relationships with a close girlfriend to avoid this kind of condescending sympathy. They’d rather raise questions about their sexual orientation than leave the space blank.
5. Delete every girl on your friends list
This one might highly surprising to our readers, but we have seen this occur one too many times. If you dare leave your Facebook logged in around an insecure girlfriend who doesn’t trust you (very high possibility) then she will almost certainly try to go delete every girl on your friends list. Again, we have personally seen this happen before.
At the very least, she might try to contact your exes or read your messages to satisfy her need for security. Always remember to log out. Even if you’ve done nothing wrong you still have a right to your privacy.
Women do crazy things on Facebook
Facebook can have many positive qualities when used properly, but its constant stream of life updates can also be destructive to a relationship or a reputation if misused. Unfortunately, if a woman’s determined to partake in the immature behaviors listed above, there’s not much you can do besides expressing your displeasure.
If she’s your girlfriend, she should have enough consideration to consider your request. If she’s your ex, all you can do is kick yourself in the ass for agreeing to try on that dress in the first place.
Be smart. Stay Elite.
