What is Roxicodone?

One of the more narcotic and potent oxycodone medications is Roxicodone, a powerfully addictive analgesic or painkiller. It functions by dulling the brain’s pain perception center and is typically prescribed in order to alleviate moderate to severe pain. In higher doses, it will affect other systems of the body such as the circulatory and respiratory systems. In many instances, Roxicodone is administered prior to surgery to reduce fear in the patient and sedate them. It is similar to morphine.

Precautions and warnings

Although most individuals will use Roxicodone as instructed by a physician, it is a favorite on the streets with recreational drug users. In either case, Roxicodone addiction can develop swiftly. There are several precautions and warnings you need to be aware of if you are using the drug as it was prescribed, taking it recreationally, or considering it.

First and foremost, never drink alcohol with Roxicodone as this can be very dangerous and potentially lethal. Additionally, you want to make sure that any other medications you may be taking do not contain alcohol.

Never get behind the wheel of a vehicle or operate heavy machinery when you are under the influence of Roxicodone as it can impair your reactions and your thinking or ability to concentrate. In other words, if you need to be alert, do not take this drug.

Do not abruptly stop using Roxicodone whether you are taking it as directed or have been using it recreationally. Some extremely unpleasant withdrawal symptoms will occur and could be potentially dangerous. You may want to consult with a physician if you are considering an abrupt stoppage to taking the drug.

If you have had allergic reactions to certain narcotic drugs such as Darvocet, Lortab, Methadone, morphine, OxyContin, Percocet, and Vicodin you shouldn’t take Roxicodone. Narcotic cough medications and syrups that contain ingredients such as codeine, dihydrocodeine, and hydrocodone should also be avoided. Finally, don’t take the drug if you are having an asthma attack or have a bowel obstruction.
