WHILE STOCKS HAVE STAGED a nice recovery in the past four months, Alex Motola has more of a reason to celebrate than most fund managers.
The Thornburg Core Growth Fund, which Motola has managed since 2001, is up 22% this year, a full 10 percentage points ahead of the mid-cap growth index that Morningstar considers the fund's benchmark.
It's a far cry from the 51% loss that it endured last year, a particularly rough year for growth-stock oriented funds.
