Former Marine Arrested after Protesting Foreclosure

Riverside, CA- Former Marine Arturo de los Santos was arrested last week as he and 200 people protested his foreclosure at the local Freddie Mac office.

De los Santos went into foreclosure after Chase Bank advised him to miss a couple of payments in order to have his loan modified because of a drop in income. De los Santos told the Huffington Post that he was given a trial modification with reduced payments, which he made on time until a final settlement could be reached. But then Chase’s modification department began refusing his payments and started the foreclosure process. Chase then told him to talk to Freddie Mac since they were the agency that underwrote his loan.

De los Santos was ordered out of his home and just days later his approval for modification was approved, but it was too late to stop the foreclosure. This is just an example of the mishandling of mortgages that banks have been accused of. Many homeowners can contest these practices when they hire a foreclosure lawyer.

De los Santos and his family stayed in their home despite the foreclosure. He along with protestors went to the local offices of Freddie Mac to clear up the confusion over the foreclosure and modification. When asked to leave de los Santos refused and was arrested.

The plight of the de los Santos family is a familiar one. Many homeowners have attempted to modify their mortgages, some with the assistance of a foreclosure attorney, but have been refused even though they qualify.

Foreclosure attorneys can help a homeowner with a number of mortgage related issues such as modification, short sale or challenging a foreclosure.
