As many as a dozen tornadoes ripped through northern Texas Tuesday, leaving widespread damage in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The National Weather Service does not know the exact number of tornadoes that touched down, but surveyors will assess affected areas today to determine a final count.
The Dallas suburb of Lancaster was one of the most severely damaged areas. Authorities there reported at least 10 people were injured and numerous homes were destroyed. Arlington officials also reported damage to buildings and said at three residents suffered minor injuries. Electricity to thousands of homes and businesses in and around the city was knocked out and remained out as of Wednesday morning.
Officials will determine the extent of damage later Wednesday. No fatalities have been reported.
